I was going through some old papers I've written and found something pretty awesome.
April 16-19, 2015 I attended Buena Vista University's 15th annual Cultural Leadership Conference "Illuminate the Vibrant Self Within". Ryan Penneau was a guest speaker and he had us journal after his speech. For anyone who wants to really know who I am and wonder what is in my heart, here's proof from 3 years ago that God has been leading my steps and actions. "Love is everywhere it doesn't have to be just your family. You have the power to make a change in the world. Just because the majority does one thing, you can do the opposite. Emotions are ok. They are what makes us human. Tell people how you feel. Don't settle for good enough. Call people out when they are being rude or wrong. The world won't change on its own. It needs one person to start the ball rolling. Just because you are different doesn't mean you are not equal to everyone. You are who you are but that isn't an excuse for good enough. You are strong and powerful. Take control of the world's bad actions." Pretty powerful stuff coming from a 17 year old. Now look at me! I saw the destruction human trafficking and sexual exploitation was doing to our world and I am taking a stand.

Facebook: Darby Rand Do you know how awesome God is?? I had 1 class left to teach. English class to the little kids in El Rio. That was yesterday when my computer crashed. My class was supposed to to through a short cartoon where we would pause and say what the character is doing. "He is eating chicken." The kids love this style and honestly it's a great way to keep control in the class. If someone starts talking the movie is paused and they realize what happened and refocus.
But as we know, my computer crashed yesterday just an hour before class... So I came up with a new lesson plan involving markers and papers. I put the box of material in the car and for some reason I put my computer in my backpack... understand it refused to turn on again that hour. I got to class and in my excitement forgot the markers and papers in the van, which left us in El Rio. I set up the computer not really convinced it would work. Even if it turned on I didn't think it would stay on or even work to run the video. So I turned to the kids and said, "quien quiere orar por mi computadora?" Who wants to pray for my computer? They looked at me as if I was joking but I explained how my computer had crashed and it was all thanks to God that it had even turned on! So they prayed over it. And my computer worked. It played the video until I was done, the crashed again as I was about to close the video! Go ahead I dare you to call it a coincidence. Cause man have I got about a million coincidences to tell you when I get home. Well it finally happened. My amazing computer of 3 years has crashed for good. I'm grateful to say it didn't take any of my lesson plans down with it. Sadly it will no longer hold a charge, it must be plugged in to turn on. To you that may seem like no big deal, but we travel to many locations to teach. I use my computer to show videos and power points that are vital to my class. Short videos make class interesting and engaging. My class would be very different without these tools.
So with a heavy heart I'll be retiring this computer when I return home. Somehow I have to find a new or used one that will work for the travel demands. We don't always have electricity you see, so the need is great. Hoping to raise just $250 for a small laptop. I don't need anything fancy. Just something to type on. If you have any leads or information, please feel free to send me a message. My laptop has only ever crashed once before and had a full recovery. It has always been ready for anything with me. From the fiesty trials of college, the frozen spring in Iceland, then the dry dusty city of Kathmandu Nepal, finally to the damaging salty air of Costa Rica. My HP notebook has endured. And I would be honored to find a laptop just like it again. Rest in peace dear laptop. You've done your job. January Newsletter:
I gave God 1 year of my life. Doing whatever He said and following the path he laid before me. Now I'm in Costa Rica, a place I would've only dreamed about. In one year God took me almost all the way around the world. Puerto Rico, China, Nepal, Mesa Verde, Panama, and now Costa Rica. He changed my life forever and I've committed to much more than a mere year. Forever and Always, I will serve the Lord. That is my motto for this year. Working with Seeds of Hope Cost Rica has been incredible. Alongside an excellent volunteer team, we are actively focused on our prevention efforts. Preventing human trafficking and sexual exploitation. You can find us in three of the highest risk cities in Costa Rica: Jaco, Parrita, and Tarcoles. We teach students their rights and let them know there are options for them when times get hard. This January God has placed something special on my heart. I call it my God Dream. Let me preface, my theory is that after we give up our personal dreams to follow God, he places an important dream in our hearts. Sometimes the God Dream will take a lifetime to complete, other times it will take a year or two then God places another on your heart. And so on. My God Dream is truly spectacular in my opinion and will only be possible with God. At Seeds of Hope Costa Rica, we are working on a project called Clubhouse in a Box. Where we put all the curriculums and procedures in one place. The goal is to offer it to other countries so that the world can have Seeds of Hope clubhouses. Together we can stop trafficking and exploitation before it starts. The Dream God gave me is to help see the Clubhouse in a Box program succeed. There's more to this God Dream I can tell you that much. Right now God is having me take it one day at a time. I look forward to sharing the complete vision God is showing me in the coming months. A special thanks to those joining me in our fight to prevent human trafficking and sexual exploitation. |
AuthorI am a missionary. Currently studying at Bethany Global University. The ultimate God dream is to go to Mongolia. I believe God has called me to minister to the Mongolian nomads, they are the unreached people of our world. With over 3 million people in Mongolia, there are only around 70 churches. These churches are all in cities, thus leaving the nomads on their own. I am a missionary, this is my calling, and this is my story. Please Contact me to find out how to donate.Archives
